Chicken Play

The kids new favorite activity since we have warmer weather is to go get the chickens out and chase them around the yard. They love it and I am fairly sure that the chickens enjoy being out too. We are working on their new coop and I think right now their old one is a little cramped.

We purchased five chicks a little over a month ago. We got two barred rock, two buff orpington (we already have three of these hens and we love them), and one frizzle. The frizzle died on the third day we had them and the others are still going strong.

Above is one of our barred rocks and she is standing where our soon to be garden is! I am so excited to get that garden going soon.

 They seem to love him to pieces. This is one of our baby buffs. We are still trying to think of good names and we have had them for over a month now. We need to get on that.

*please excuse the play set mess in the background. we had a small tornado a few weeks ago and have a huge mess on our hands. the hubs was rebuilding our fence as I was taking these pics.

Lucas wanted to put her on his shoulder too but she was more interested in standing on his back.

Paisley cracks me up with them. She makes the funniest faces when they do things. We have to teach her every day over and over again how to be sweet to them. She is not very gentle with the babies but she is getting there.

A Little Game of Catch Up...

My New Ladies

We have been wanting chickens for a while now. We are honestly so super busy all the time that we put it on the back burner. My nanny offered to let me have this little coop and three Buff Orpingtons that she was planning on getting rid of. They are so very sweet and two years old. They weren't very high in the pecking order at her house and she had to keep them separated from her other chickens in her big coop. Well we were more than willing to give them a home. Saturday, my Pawpaw loaded them up and brought them on over!

Paisley has been obsessed with her chicken book. She was so excited when we got them here to their new home. She looks out the window out them several times a day and just squeals with excitement!

This is their coop that was given to us. They made it out of a Little Tykes log cabin playhouse. I have thoughts running through my head on how we could paint the roof of the house a neutral color and make the run a little bigger so it would be easier to walk in and out of. The hubs has shut me up with that pretty quickly! I can't help it, my mind races! HA!

My poor Lucas is allergic to every animal under the sun. I am so thrilled for him that we were able to get some pets that he can actually handle! His fish seem to bore him these days! :(

These chickens are called Buff Orpingtons. They are great layers and pretty decent in size. I have not had them that long but I can say that I highly recommend them around small children. Well, I recommend my three anyway. They are like puppies and as soon as we walk down to them they head for the door. If you go inside the coop they walk up to you and look at you as to say "aren't you going to get me?"

Miss Paisley petting her new "bok boks". I kept trying to think of names and my nanny said she had been calling them Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. I decided to keep their names as is. If you know me and know what a huge Disney freak I am, you'll understand why!

I can't wait to let them out some during the day to run around the fenced in yard. I am going to wait a while and let them get used to their new surroundings first. They seem to love us already, as much as we love them. Just check out the rewards they are already leaving:

Insta-Catch Up?!??

I will apologize in advance for the phone photo overload that is coming. I should have split this up into two posts but I figured why not just go ahead and catch up and be ahead of the game... right? Haha.

Checking out the "bok boks" at Nanny and Pop's house. She is obsessed with chickens... she may be a very happy little girl very soon. That's all I can say about that now! :)

Petting one of the baby goats. My pawpaw has 36 goats. 14 of them were born last week! Crazy! We actually saw a mommy goat give birth to number 15 while we were there. That was.... interesting with the boys. Ha!

The Newest Additions...

 We totally got two silkie hens this weekend! I have been wanting some chickens for a while now. We still need to get a coop. We plan on figuring that out this weekend. I think silkies are so pretty and I had to have at least one. I wound up getting two. Oh well. :) We plan on getting at least four more hens but not until we have a coop. I would love a rooster but we have neighbors and I don't need complaints.
